# Assign languages to the rack audio outputs

Assign a language to each output in use and carry that mapping through the rack labels, distribution connection and audience instructions. Always distinguish the language being spoken from the languages people listen to. The rack offers up to four simultaneous translated output languages; confirm every mapping by listening before opening the room.

## Separate incoming speech from listening languages {#besoins}

Begin with two lists: languages speakers will use and languages participants want to hear. A source language is not automatically another translated output to allocate. Confirm translation needs against the actual programme, including any planned changes of language during a contribution.

The [specifications](https://uni-translate.fr/en/specifications/) describe four jack outputs and up to four simultaneous translated languages per rack. This capacity helps size the installation; it does not replace confirming the languages needed for your event. The guide to [choosing conference languages](https://uni-translate.fr/en/blog/choose-conference-languages/) explains how to collect those needs before assigning outputs or publishing audience instructions.

## Write one unambiguous mapping {#fiche}

For each output in use, record its physical label, assigned language, connected distribution equipment and the selection participants will see on their receivers. If the systems use different numbers, write both. The sheet should let a technician follow one language without guessing how the cabling was organised.

Fictional example: an output labelled A feeds a listening system whose public selection is number 2. The sheet records A, the confirmed language and 2 together. The rack output label therefore does not automatically become the number communicated to the audience. Mark the connected cables to match the sheet.

## Confirm at the listening position {#validation}

Someone speaks a test sentence while a listener checks every selection on the audience equipment. Have someone able to identify the language confirm what they hear. Sound being present, or a label being attached, does not establish that the right language reaches the right destination.

The [headsets and receivers guide](https://uni-translate.fr/en/blog/translation-headsets-receivers/) completes this check. Repeat it after changes to cabling, language assignment or distribution configuration. Before a new session, also confirm that the instructions being handed out still match the active sheet at the audio desk. Keep a record of who completed the listening check.

## Control changes during the event {#changements}

Name one person authorised to change the plan and another responsible for informing the welcome team. Avoid a technician renaming an output while another team distributes an old sheet. A useful backstage change needs to become clear to listeners before speaking resumes. Agree how an update reaches each affected team.

For several rooms, maintain a separate plan for each installation and put the room name on all documents used by the crews.

- Spoken and listening languages distinguished.
- One confirmed language per output in use.
- Consistent labels on cables and the sheet.
- Every public selection checked by listening.
- Sheet version and responsible person identified.
